Fixed-Route Bus Discount Fares for People with Disabilities
SporTran provides discount fares for individuals with a disability in the Shreveport-Bossier City area. These discount fares apply only to SporTran's Fixed-Route Bus Service and do not apply to LiftLine fares.
To receive this discount fare, you must submit an application for eligibility by following the steps listed below. Upon approval, you will receive a photo ID card, issued at the Downtown Transit Terminal; to be used when riding on SporTran's fixed route system.
ELIGIBILITY:
For the purpose of determining eligibility, “disabled” is defined as “An individual with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity, a record of such an impairment, or being regarded as having such an impairment.”
A major life activity can include walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning or employment.
A physical or mental impairment can include one of the following contagious or noncontagious diseases or conditions. These diseases or conditions must place substantial limitations on the individual's ability to walk, see, hear, speak, breathe, learn, or obtain / maintain employment.
Cerebral palsy, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cancer,
Heart disease, diabetes, mental retardation, emotional illness, specific
Learning disabilities, HIV disease, tuberculosis, drug addiction, and
alcoholism.
Other impairments can include: orthopedic impairments, visual impairments, speech impairments, and hearing impairments.

Application Procedures
1. The following information must be typed or printed on an original agency or physician's letterhead (no copies will be accepted) and dated within six months of submitting application:
a. Name of applicant
b. Name or description of applicant's disability.
c. Does the disability limit one or more of the following major life activities: Walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, or ability to obtain employment. If so, please indicate which activities, and explain briefly.
d. Whether or not the disability is permanent.
e. If the disability is temporary, a doctor's estimate of when the disability will end.
f. Is this individual capable of riding a city bus? (Appropriately pay bus fare, transfer between buses, etc.)
g. Signature of a physician (M.D.)
2. Rider must bring the original, signed letter from doctor to the downtown terminal, 400 Crockett Street, Monday through Friday 8:00 - 11:30AM or 1:00 - 4:30PM to have a SporTran Discount Fare ID Card made. A $2.00 processing fee is required.
