SporTran Jobs Access Night Service
Night Service Routes are designed to link people with "non-traditional hours" jobs - those that begin and end at times other than 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Night Routes will also allow people to go shopping, attend evening classes, visit, and participate in other activities.
Night Service routes will be different from the current SporTran daytime routes.
Daytime service has 16 routes that operate seven days a week, beginning at 5 AM and end at 7 pm on weekdays. Daytime service buses run approximately every thirty minutes. They operate on main roads as well as in neighborhoods that can accommodate 40 foot buses.
Night Service will consist of 5 new night routes, 4 in Shreveport, and one in Bossier City. Night Routes will operate six days a week ( no service on Sundays) from 7 pm until midnight, with buses operating every hour (every two hours on part of the Bossier Night Service Route). Night service buses will run on major thoroughfares that are lighted, with limited service on neighborhood streets.
All Night service routes will begin and end at the Downtown terminal. All Night Service Route buses are scheduled to arrive at the terminal at the same time so that there will be no transfer waiting time at the terminal. The terminal will be staffed with security and customer service personnel during night service hours.
Lift Line, SporTran's demand-responsive van service for person's with disabilities, will operate the same Night Service hours as well.
Night Service routes were the result of a study commissioned by Northwest Louisiana Council of Governments. NLCOG held public meetings in different neighborhoods, received input from major employers in the Shreveport-Bossier area, as well as from service agencies, community groups, and church-based organizations. Local consultants Morgan, Hill, Sutton, and Mitchell recommended routes that link neighborhoods where riders live who have jobs that start in the afternoon or evening with their place of employment, including jobs in retail, food service, hospitals, nursing homes, casinos, housekeeping, other service sector employment.
The service is a 15 month trial program to see what actual demand is once buses are on the street. SporTran will monitor service use, see how ridership builds, and will change routes and service levels according to demand. Changes may be made by moving routes; increasing or decreasing service levels, or altering schedule times.
